Department of Biomaterials in Bayreuth and Biological Centre in Budweis working together on antimicrobial coatings

The Department of Biomaterials, University Bayreuth and the Biological Centre of the Czech Academy of Sciences (AVČR) are beneficiaries of the EU-INTERREG program Bavaria – Czech Republic 2021-2027 with total amount of € 695,000 with the project “AIIC – Antimicrobial coatings inspired by natural insect products“.

Multi-drug resistance has become a rapidly growing threat to health, and infection prevention requires new material approaches. The cross-border project will develop processing of recombinantly produced antibacterial peptides into coatings of medical materials used by of the project partners in small and medium-sized enterprises in the region. The peptides are inspired by the antimicrobial agents innately presents in insects’ silks.
