Scientific innovation initiative “Advanced Protein Biotechnology Consortium” (APBC) started

Starting on March 1, 2025, the Chair for Biomaterials joined the Advanced Protein Biotechnology Consortium (APBC) – a scientific innovation initiative aimed at strengthening collaboration between academia and the biotechnology industry in Slovakia.

Coordinated by the Center for Interdisciplinary Biosciences (CIB TIP-UPJŠ) at Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice, APBC is supported by the EU NextGenerationEU initiative through the Recovery and Resilience Plan of the Slovak Republic (project no. 09I02-03-V01-00021) with a total funding of €15.6 million.

The Chair for Biomaterials at the UBT is one of the academic partners in the consortium, focussing on protein engineering and processing for technical and biomedical applications. Other academic partners include the Faculty Hospital of St. Anne in Brno (ICRC), the Institute of Neuroimmunology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, the University of Groningen, the University of Oxford, and the Institute of Experimental Physics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Košice. These institutions bring together outstanding expertise in polymer science, biochemistry, and biophysics.

The integration of cutting-edge research with practical applications in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics is further strengthened by the project’s industrial partners, Enantis and JUHAPHARM.
